By 2185, research into genetics has made artificial humanoids easy to produce. The Android Complex in Denver has manufactured the most successful lot, the 900 Series. They are far more intelligent and resourceful than any of the previous series-enough so that they're able to escape from the complex, travel to Mars, and disappear into human society. Robert, a human member of the media on Mars, is kidnapped by a female android to aid her on a dangerous mission: a return to Earth to find and rescue the aging Dr. Ford, the creator of the 900 Series. Their quest leads Robert into a world he never even imagined, one where the old rules of space and time no longer apply.

In this sequel to the Rise of the Human Androids, lizard like aliens called the Sharptors have perfected high-energy shields for hyperspace travel and begun exploring the galaxy. Meanwhile, James decides to not run for re-election for President of Mars. He plans instead to search the galaxy for old ones technology in a heavy cruiser with a supergun named after his wife. His wife and two children will join him on this journey. Susan, Mars' Secretary of State and former President of the U.S. will run for James' spot and James' adopted human android daughter Martha will run for vice-president. James' actions are motivated by the re-emergence of Ergone as the Marshall of the powerful and independent Altararian military. James knows Ergone wants to avenge his loss to Mars and Earth in their last war. James fears the Altararians with their vastly superior forces will crush Mars if he can't find advanced technology to stop them. In a chance meeting, James encounters the Sharptors while looking at a promising planet for exploration. A fight breaks out. James wins the encounter but the Sharptor warship escapes. Still, a plan begins to emerge in James' mind of how to use the aggressive new aliens against the Altararians. Meanwhile James and his associates explore an old ones site on their promising new earth like world Sisney 1. They must battle a super aggressive mammal the Ratang and insect the Botos, which have stripped Sisney 1 of almost all of its land animal life as they explore the site. They find new technology at the site, which they plan to use against the Altararians. Meanwhile a secret organization called the Committee, which has controlled many economic events on Earth, finds it difficult to control Mars and its allied planets. As a result, to make themselves relevant in the changing world around them, they join with bigoted groups on Mars and Ganymede and in a secret deal with the Altararians to sabotage Mars efforts to arm itself against the expected Altararian

The mid twenty first century saw Earth succumb to a phenomenon that can only be described as Venus fever. An amazing discovery on that far distant planet had had the effect of unleashing a frantic race to be the first to get to Venus, to be the very first in establishing the presence of intelligent beings on the planet's surface and to be the first to exploit the natural resources of the world many described as Earth's sister planet.

In a time of rising inequality and plutocratic government, citizens’ movements are emerging with growing frequency to offer populist challenges to the declining living standards of masses of Americans, and to protest the conditions through which individuals suffer in poor communities across the country. This book looks at the progression of modern social uprisings in the post-2008 period, including the Tea Party, Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter, the Bernie Sanders “Revolution,” Trump’s populism, the anti-Trump revolt, and #MeToo. A key theme is that populism and mass anger at the political-economic status quo take different forms depending on whether the protests are progressive-left or right-wing in orientation. Employing theories of elite politics and pluralism, and using a mixed methods approach, Anthony DiMaggio harnesses his rich experience with movement politics and his engagement with a wide range of media and public opinion data to explain where we are today and how we got here – always with an eye on moving ahead. Aimed at courses on social movements wherever they’re taught, this book also offers general readers insight into contemporary politics and protest.

New York Times bestselling author Simon R. Green continues his compelling space opera with the second novel in the Deathstalker series. Owen Deathstalker—outlawed, with a price on his head and the blood of a mighty warrior lineage in his veins—had no choice but to embrace a dangerous destiny. With nothing to lose, only he had the courage to take up arms against Queen Lionstone XIV. Now as he gathers his unlikely allies—the legendary washed-up hero Jack Random, the beautiful pirate Hazel d’Arc, the original Deathstalker long since presumed dead, and the alien Hadenmen whose purposes no human can discern—the eyes of the downtrodden are upon him while the freedom of a galaxy hangs in the balance… From the Paperback edition.
