Deciding when to work on a relationship and when to walk away is a skill that can prevent us wasting months and even years of our lives on partners that will never make us truly happy. Once we have learned to identify the deal breaker in a relationship we can empower ourselves to action, and then change and improve our lives. Whereas books like 'He's Just Not That Into You' explored relationship troubles in black and white, 'Deal Breakers' covers all the shades of grey that lie in between - all those areas where relationships can hit an impasse. Some deal breakers are easy to identify - one partner wants marriage, the other doesn't - yet many are more subtle and difficult to pinpoint. Dr Bethany Marshall is a relationships expert. She has identified specific male archetypes and the traits that frustrate and infuriate their partners. Here, for the first time in book form, is advice that can help any woman who is trying too hard to make her relationship work.

What do you do when you're a popular porn star and the love of your life is deeply religious and totally closeted? Why, you keep your true identity from him, create an alternate reality, and hope he doesn't find out, of course. Because, if he ever does, that would be the deal breaker. That was Jordan Hearst's reasoning, anyway. However, despite Jordan's best efforts at keeping his charade a secret, Spenser Hudson does find out. Having a liar and a porn star as a boyfriend is a deal breaker as far as the devastated Spenser is concerned. Fearing the loss of both his job and his family, Spenser abruptly disappears from Jordan's life, castigating himself for ever letting his carnal desires override his faith, thus allowing him to fall in love with the handsome, charming Jordan. With all attempts at reconciliation rebuffed, Jordan tries to move on, but the love he feels for Spenser won't go away, making it impossible for him to return to his job of having meaningless sex in front of the cameras. Spenser is given a different perspective on his and Jordan's situation from an unlikely source. Can the love he still feels for Jordan be the key to rekindling what they once shared? Is it enough to make Spenser see there's more than one way to look at the deal life has given him? Can a new deal to be struck?

Working for my ex-boyfriend? Fine. But falling for him again? That's a deal breaker. Dancing around my office in my bra isn't exactly the way I'd have chosen to run into my ex for the first time in twelve years, but what can I say? Wes Lake has always had a knack for showing up at the most inopportune times. Unfortunately, he also has a knack for leaving. That's why I've made every effort to put him out of my head - and my heart. But this time, he needs my help. Wes Lake, head of Manhattan's preeminent real estate development firm, needs my tiny little marketing start-up to take on a special project at his company. The money's too good to turn down, so even though I'm leery of working for my ex, I accept. There's just one problem: I can't stop kissing him. I know better. I swear I do. But that doesn't stop my lips from being magnetically drawn to his every time we're in the same room. Can you blame me? He's gorgeous, wealthy, powerful - and he still remembers how to push all the right buttons. So to keep things professional, Wes and I strike another kind of deal. - No kissing. - No talking about the past. - No seeing each other outside of work. - Did I mention no kissing? Shouldn't be a problem, right? Except I might have underestimated Wes. Because when it comes to business - or pleasure - he'll do anything to seal the deal. Even if it means breaking my heart in the process.

Nixie Rowland is having a bad day. Rushing home to drown her sorrows in ice cream and reality television, she decides to take a shortcut to the subway where things take a turn for the worst. But Nixie’s bad luck doesn’t end there—the white knight who comes to her rescue is none other than the Dark Knight of Wall Street, a cocky Manhattan mogul whose ego barely fits inside his penthouse. To her horror, Nixie discovers the sizzling attraction between them is off the charts, and rising fast. Spending the night in his bed does nothing to lower the heat... And everything to set her heart on fire. Nash Knight doesn’t have room in his life, or his heart, for anything beyond one-night stands or casual flings. And he certainly doesn’t make a habit of rescuing damsels in distress. Except that this particular damsel slips beneath his armor, the vulnerability she covers with a false show of bravado hitting him somewhere deep. Nixie is everything he never wanted... And exactly what he needs. With Nixie on the run from a controlling ex, and Nash trying to salvage a business deal at risk because his conquests in the bedroom are overshadowing his wins in the boardroom, there’s one simple solution for them both: a marriage in name only. But when lust becomes love, will their untamed emotions be a deal breaker?

The topic of marriage is challenging with itself, but when you add the element of cheating and you create a powder keg of emotions that can be expressed by every individual experience. Some arguments are based in reality while others take on a life of their own. Just like the rational and irrational person connected to the comment that is being articulated. Then you have to consider if the interested party has ever been in a serious committed relationship even similar or on the same level as the legally binding contract of marital matrimony. At which point the aspect of cheating must be applied as a term and condition included into the conversation that is being debated. I have never been married but I have been in situations that could have led to the engagement process but because my level of trust in the other partner was not sufficient to move forward in the procedure. I feel as if I could interject my opinion in the discussion otherwise I would have not even considered writing a book on this subject matter. It would have been silly of me unless I was a comedian or an ill-informed jester who is only interested in listening to the sound of my own voice. I am not clown or an investigative news reporter who thinks less of fact checking their source of information for flaws or inaccurate statistics. Relations and infidelity are issues that I am familiar with and I talk about frequently because they are very relevant and prevalent in American culture and around the globe. Now let’s tackle the last portion of the equation. Cheating in itself is an act of deception. Most women are more troubled with the man that they love and care about lying to them than the physical act of intimacy. And most men are usually more upset that their lover chose a man of convenience who is usually a loser in everyday life that has nothing going for him. A broke bum is his replacement in so many cases. And when he finds out his anger burns hotter than the flames of the inferno of Satan
